Students are responsible for writing down their homework in their agenda at the end of each day. They are also responsible for completing homework and turning in their assignments the next day. If students complete their homework and have their agenda signed, they have prepared themselves for practicing our classroom skils.
Your child should have a blue homework folder. This folder should be taken home and returned to school each night. I encourage students to stay organized throughout the year by using their folders!
Spelling homework is given Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday. Students are responsible for copying their spelling words, in their agendas, from the board Monday morning during morning work. These words should be used to complete spelling homework. Spelling tests are given every Friday. Spelling homework is always the same. Please help your child learn their spelling words and encourage them to be prepared for tests on Fridays.
Monday- write spelling words 5 times each
Tuesday- write 1 sentence for each spelling word
Wednesday - write rainbow words with each spelling word
Thursday- study for spelling test
*Spelling Menus will go home to give other ways to practice spelling words, as well. The Menus can be used instead of the above assignments, or in addition to them. As long as spelling practice is being completed each night, then your child is learning!
Other homework assignments are given, as well. Math homework is sent home 2 nights weekly, and Science or Social Studies 1 night. Wednesday homework will always be a reading assignment. All homework corresponds to what we are learning in class. I do not give much homework as I know time at home is valuable and can be busy! Since the homework load is light, I do expect students to complete their assignments each night.
Study guides and vocabulary words for major tests are always sent home in advance. These should also be kept inside the homework folder during the week so students can study at home.
Students should also be reading 20-30 minutes each night. They can bring their library books home to read!
